    ■Y2 PROJECT
Q1. What does Y2 stand for?
A1. It stands for “Yamaha meets You.” It represents our belief that the results are bound to be remarkable when Yamaha technology meets your ideas and your technologies.
Q2. Who is the proprietor of a business/service based on Y2 TECHNOLOGY?
A2. The service provider. Yamaha will provide the technology engine but will not own the service. See here for details.

Q3. Is the service provided only via the Internet?
A3. Yes. Since the service uses a WebAPI, the service can only be provided on the Internet.

Q4. What platforms is the service provided on?
A4. The service is not platform-specific. It can be flexibly provided (for example) via a mobile device, game system, or PC.
    ■Effectors
Q5. Are the effectors provided by Y2 the same as those used in Yamaha softwares and hardwares?
A5. The effectors are partly the same as those used in softwares and hardwares, but they’re the latest versions improved specifically for this project. To try out the sample. →Try. (Go to SAMPLE APPLICATION.)

    ■NetVOCALOD
Q6. How does the NetVOCALOID differ in functionality from the VOCALOID software?
A6. NetVOCALOID runs on a server and only synthesizes singing voices. It is not equipped with the editor UI provided by the VOCALOID software package. In case of NetVOCALOID, the editor UI must be provided by the service provider.
Q7. How is a vocal database created?
A7. You have to record a song first to create a vocal database. The recorded song is divided into individual phonetic sounds and converted into a database. At the moment, this takes one to two months and requires some expertise. Service providers can develop their own databases, or we can develop them on request.

Q8. Can I use an existing vocal database?
A8. This is something the service provider must discuss with each database developer, depending on which database you want to use.

Q9. Can I use end user's singing voice for synthesis?
A9. No. At the moment, it is not possible to create a database using end user's voice.
Q10. Can any sound be used to create a database?
A10. The synthesis is designed for human voices. Animal or mechanical sounds may not be synthesized properly.

Q11. Can the VOCALOID be made to speak?
A11. The VOCALOID is not text-to-speech software. However, it is possible to allow the VOCALOID to speak with musical pitch.

    Q12. What languages are available?
A12. Japanese and English. A separate vocal database is needed for each language.
Q13. What happens to an end user’s copyright on the sounds he or she creates using this service?
A13. This depends on the specifics of the consent agreement between each service provider and its users.

Q14. Is a filk function available?
A14. While a filk function can be provided in technical terms, doing so may violate musical copyrights—e.g., the rights of integrity. The service provider must address the necessary procedures.
